Project 2025 would reduce the number of free school lunches for hungry kids. They sneeringly call summer meals for hungry kids "a federal catering program." Meals. For hungry kids. #StopProject2025Comicstopproject2025comic.org/comic/childr...

Two panels from a Stop Project 2025 comic

Panel 2

The red suited figures pick up the lunch trays, taking them away from the children. A boy is still staring at his spoon full of goop, while a girl turns around in shock as her lunch is stolen.

MAN IN SUIT: On second thought…

GIRL: Hey!

CAPTION: Reduce of the number of free school lunches.

CAPTION: The Community Eligibility Program (CEP) “allows schools or school districts with high rates of poverty to offer meals to all students without having to qualify each student individually.”*

CAPTION: Project 2025 states “Congress should eliminate CEP.” [2025, p 303]

Panel 3

We look over the shoulder of a red suited figure who is pointing at some kids lined up outside a school. The kids look shocked and hungry, and they are clutching empty lunch trays.

CAPTION: Eliminate summer meals for many kids.

MAN IN SUIT: Scram!

CAPTION: Furthermore, Project 2025 says “the USDA should not provide meals to students during the summer unless students are taking summer-school classes.”

CAPTION: They call summer meals for hungry kids “a federal catering program.” [2025, p 303]

Tomorrow, everyone at my kid's school is supposed to wear orange shirts for anti-bullying day. My kid has decided not to wear his new orange Hello Kitty shirt because he is afraid that kids will make fun of it.

I think about this a lot these days. In his youth, my grandpa escaped Nazi occupied Poland. Years later he was forced to pack up his family and flee Soviet Russia. I would really like to be the first generation of my family in a long while that *doesn't* have to escape fascism.

Short guide: you have to vote and you have to vote straight-ticket Dem. "But what about" sure go ahead, look up the Republican candidate for state legislature or state executive office. Guaranteed to be some weird fascist. However bad you might think the Dem is, their opponent is far, far worse.

With so much focus on the presidential election, keep in mind these down-ballot races can lead to big changes in your state when it comes to policies like abortion, health care and criminal justice.

Too much presidential politics? State legislatures are also on the ballot
