Who would ever think that some think tank white papers would ever be read or referenced? It hardly ever happens so its not a huge thing to plan for. It just so happened that this time it worked against the think tank because dems needed a target while forcing their nominee to step down.

the saving grace of modern conservatism is that to succeed you must placate the most deranged freaks alive, and progressing through that bubble to the national level makes you deeply repellent to all normal people, including quite a few of your own voters
They forgot the big lesson of 2012: the general public does not like the Republican policy platform and it is vital to hide it if you want to win. Don't organize it into a PDF and give it a catchy name!
