Small scale solar in the US (which didn't exist 15 years ago) now provides as much power as ten 1 GW nuclear reactors. Meanwhile we have net closed net 5 GW in reactor capacity. We are the world leader in nuclear power, but it is in decline here.

Could have been me today. It was in a construction on an overpass so down to two lanes of rather heavy traffic. It was doing fine until it suddenly started braking without warning. I took over quickly and fortunately no one rear ended me. Also had to stop it from running over a curb.

Solar CF is dropping because it has become cheap even where sunlight is not abundant. German PV CF is <9% but it is now supplying 10.6% of German power.

I think the other sensors have been disabled in the cars that had them. I have a free trial right now and my impression after about 5 miles is that you would have to be crazy to pay anything, let alone $8K, for this. 1 phantom brake and one intervention - seemed like it was going to run over a curb.

I bought a used Tesla last month and they seem to have just given me a trial of FSD. Can confirm it is like coaching a teen driver with a learner's permit - except you can't give any suggestions or ask what it is thinking. Not relaxing. Used it about 5 miles and had one phantom braking event. Scarey

Hope it lasts longer than three months.

Tech billionaires are talking a lot about using nuclear as a supposedly cleaner power source for hyperscale data centers. But what they don’t say is that their ambitious plans are extending the life of coal-fired power plants across the United States.

The power generation sector is looking at numerous ways to provide enough electricity to satisfy demand from data centers. Bloomberg Intelligence recently

#ClimateChange Had a pesky science denier say "it's all the sun" so I had to combine the highest long term resolution datasets I had on insolation and temperature (within reason, GMST gets way more noisy) I composed this: Not much of a correlation, is there?

This is nice. I like plotting TSI as an anomaly.

Just arrived at BlueSky and this is the first post it served up to me. I think I like it here.
