...and I'm saying that as someone who still is into superhero movies. For a minute there it seemed like they were completely taking over the industry. Hopefully there's room for both. (although it would be even better to see more original ideas or underutilized ideas on the screen)
Now, it's kind of depressing to see the top 20 dominated by sequels, reboots and adaptations... but there's a tiny glimmer of hope in seeing franchises like Dune, Kong/Godzilla, Planet of the Apes, Twisters, Beetlejuice, Bad Boys and Alien succeeding as non-superhero based movies.
Never in a million years would I expect Beetlejuice Beetlejuice to sit at 370 million and place 9th among the top 10 most grossing movies of the year. It'll likely get pushed out of the top 10 before the end of the year, but it's still an impressive performance.
