when youre on your phone and open a link from Gmail to log into a site and then that site wants you to get a verification code from your email and you can't get back to your inbox because the web site is open in your Gmail..... that's a fail

To creat a passcode in the MS Authenticator you need to authenticate with your Authenticator which you can’t since you’re in it so I needed to set up a new MS Authenticator using the work profile on my phone, I could switch to enter the number and create the passkey for the first app.
