I can totally relate - my Dad passed away 7 years ago so my Mom is on her own. She is now seeing her friends and neighbors having serious health issues they don’t always recover from. I’ve seen her get more involved at church - and I think it’s definitely a coping mechanism. Life is hard for her

My mom has been depressed since my dad’s passing, having a hard time adjusting after 64 years of someone always there. The man yesterday, he died in the hospital after colon cancer surgery. (This is why she was kind of resistant to her recent pacemaker.) Just not sure how to help her cope.
