the new yorker apology for AI is infuriating, I am way too mad for a Saturday morning. writing is not an “improbable” mental process! it happens every day! and even if some college students are using ChatGPT as a (bad) mechanical writing tutor, it was still trained on a corpus of stolen work!!!

The way these pieces just totally elide the _pleasures_ of writing, even go-nowhere squiggles and vignettes, even an off-the-cuff email, is just so bleak

we are really seeing the fruits of the the mystification of art + the belief that art is all about the “idea” and not the execution + the devaluation of labor
