So much of US politics (on both sides) has turned into "my team can never do wrong and the opposite team can never do right". It's part of why I would never move back to the US: you need to be able to look at politics analytically and critically, even if they are the party you usually support.
My grandmother does this. She cut me off for a full year- 0 communication- because I criticised something a Dem said and she blew up at me, calling me a "Trump supporter"... Btw, she hasn't lived in the US since 1984 (genuine year) and no one else in our family has lived in the US since 2007.
"Just be a good citizen!" "Just stop hating your country!" "Just contribute something to society!" "Then this wouldn't happen!" This is proof that there is no winning. There is no such thing as being a "good citizen". To many, the mere pigment of your skin is an affront to their idea of "goodness".
"Are you afraid?" said the bear. "No, that I am not," said she. "Keep tight hold of my fur, and then there is no danger," said he.
It looks like she's hissing, but I swear she's not. Just a silent meow from a cat wanting to be pet.
My friend who has always been ultra-PC said the same (& about the elderly). I called her out, she kept saying it, so I absolutely blew up at her. I think COVID turned a lot of "normal" people into absolute monsters. Doesn't excuse it as a monster is still a monster, but it's a logical explanation.
Stardust is one of only a few Blurays I own. What a classic, though it doesn't seem to get the recognition it deserves. I introduced my friend to the movie and she agreed wholeheartedly.
