I'm low on Jericho but not for the reason as most seem to be. I don't think the Learning Tree is bad, but they're using it poorly. If one week they announced "we hear from Jericho" then inexplicably he was absent. Then the following week he's furious his segment was cut. Go in directions like that.
I love the DS version. I know most prefer the gba. But I love the augment system. I play it on my retroid pocket 3+, though. It's too unbearably slow on DS.
Maybe they're just not for you? One of my favorites is Wonder Boy: the Dragons Trap, it's a breezy 3 to 4 hours of pure joy. Castlevania Aria of Sorrow is real good. You could also try Metroid Fusion, it's pretty short and has a unique take.
