We havent invested properly, Many private schools are modest and simple fill gaps in local state provision. This whole argument is based on an Eton stereotype which isn't true for many schools. (Eg SEN provision for kids on diagnosis wait lists, or those prev bullied in local state provision
More than a better education, parents who send their kids to private schools buy their children networking opportunities and access to the higher echelons of society. It's perverse. There is nothing meritocratic about it.
