🧵 Good thread in here. Points out one of the things that makes Macross special in the 'golden triad' of the big mecha shows (Macross, Gundam and Yamato). Is Macross the forerunner of 'get in the damn robot' syndrome? Maaaaaybe, but not quite. Hikaru will fight where Shinji has to be dragged.

I haven't seen every robot show prior to Macross, but I have seen a lot and introducing our lead as "hot shot pilot" and them having him almost crying in terror in the cockpit by end of episode 2 may be the biggest innovation.
