Our group in Freiburg, lead by Andreas Hiltbrunner, is currently looking for a PhD or a PostDoc working on evolution of phytochromes in the context of water-to-land transition. Funding is 3 years with possible extension. Application deadline 31st Jan. #PlantScience #PlantDevelopment Please Repost

One PhD (65% E13 TVL) or Postdoc (100% E13 TVL) position. The position is expected to start on 1 April 2024 or by agreement and is initially limited to 36 months with the option of extension. The selected candidate will experimentally investigate evolutionary aspects of phytochrome signalling in non-seed plant model species. Phytochromes are photoreceptors that are important to sense and respond to changes in the environment. In the course of the water-to-land transition, plants had to adapt to the light conditions on land, which differ drastically from the conditions in aquatic habitats. In this project within the Priority Programme SPP 2237 "MAdLand: Molecular Adaptations to Land", we aim to understand the diversification of phytochromes into red and far-red light specific photoreceptors, and uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying the diversification.
