As a copyeditor, one of the most important aspects of your role is to offer clarification and ensure consistency without disrupting the author's voice. When a manuscript presents a challenge or ambiguity, crafting clear, professional queries is key to guiding the author without creating confusion.
Here’s how to compose effective queries while copyediting: Be Specific and Clear: Directly point to the issue. Vague questions like “Is this correct?” don’t provide enough context. Instead, specify what’s unclear: “This sentence could imply X, but I believe you mean Y. Can you confirm?”
