A Missouri woman in the midst of a dangerous miscarriage was denied an abortion because of the state's ban. Then she was denied an abortion in Kansas. Finally, she drove several hours to get one in Illinois. She's now filed a federal lawsuit for sex discrimination + violation of her EMTALA rights.
Two years ago, Mylissa Farmer was denied an emergency abortion at hospitals in Missouri and Kansas while experiencing a miscarriage.
Evil fucking country
I am so sorry for this woman, and yet so happy this law will finally be tested. Women don't deserve this. We have heartbeats, too.
This will be highlighted as a story in resilience, when it is really a frightening tale of state oppression. Her life will be wrecked further as she navigates through the lawsuit. Democrats need to win, nix the filibuster and pack the courts, before we turn numb to stories like these.
This makes me so angry, angry at those in power who made this happen, and angrier still at those who voted these evil people into power.
I'm not optimistic with the current state of SCOTUS. They took the Idaho case, lifted the injunction of the law in question, caused multiple women to have to be flown out of Idaho, then said "whoops, our bad we shouldn't have taken this in an election year" and sent it back to the 5th circuit.
So youre also supposed to go bankrupt being airlifted to another state? Who is paying for those transfers? Really scary being pregnant and living in those states What part of under 22wks is non viable do these assholes not get
Horrific. I had a miscarriage that didn’t pass properly, no heartbeat, close to sepsis, in excruciating pain, fever of 103 and vomiting. I went to the local hospital ER (in IL) and they took care of me. I can’t imagine driving for hours. I would have crashed the car. This is inhumane
This is one of those stories that gets me to subscribe to a paper I won't read after it gets resolved.
That is so awful... I hope she wins. Big time. But that would still be just a small solace for the horrible trauma she had to go through.
