We take for granted the calendar time model today, in spite of various lunar calendars etc that run alongside, but mapping of time was another of those pompous imperial battles of pride between England and France.

This is a distinctive interpretation and beautifully recorded!

Revisiting this particularly strong work by Vaughan Williams. There's a theme from his symphony in here too (5 I think...) Often his symphonies came out of materials developed for these other commissions
