It really seems like I'm almost always right about confirmation bias.
After six months of our kitchen/laundry drain backing up and needing me to snake it, this morning these chunks (among several others) came out. That's about a 1.5cm buildup in a 6cm pipe, so a 75% reduction in drainage even when it wasn't blocked outright. Hoping this solves the problem.
I tightened the aerator on the sink faucet in the bathroom next to my office so finally after three years it doesn't drip on the counter.
