A speckled wood butterfly seen near the Dighty Burn in Monifieth, Dundee. Two others were spotted spiralling around each other as they flew about. 📷📸🎞️ #ukwildlife#butterfly#butterflies

A speckled wood butterfly filling the image with their wings spread wide. They are resting on a dead grass stem with a blurred background of green grass and brown stems. They are mostly dark brown with a small black eyespot an several white patches on each of their fore wings. The bottom of their hind wings have three small eye-spots with white outer ring and white spot in the centre. The bottom of their hind wings has a scalloped edge.

Some birds seen on my Saturday walk around the Seven Arches (Balmossie) Viaduct area of the Dighty Burn in Monifieth and Broughty Ferry, Dundee. Collared dove, female kingfisher, grey heron and a singing robin. Always happy to see a kingfisher! 📷📸🎞️🪶 #birds#ukwildlife#BirdingScotland

A collared dove perched facing the camera on the top of a lamp post against a light grey sky background. They are a creamy pale grey colour all over with dark beak. Their eyes are dark chestnut coloured with a large black pupil. On their left shoulder is the end of their distinctive black collar with white edging which extends around the back of their neck out of sight.
A female kingfisher bird in profile facing left perched on the end of a small branch with several large, slightly blurred, rocks covering the background. They have bright speckled blue head, nape and wings with bright pale blue strip down the middle of their back. Their chin is white and their breast is fluffy orange. They have a black eye against a strip of orange ending with a flash of white below. They have a long dark grey beak with and orange patch at the base of the bottom half suggesting they are female.
A grey heron perched in a tree viewed side-on facing to the right against a background of thin branches and green/brown leaves. Their head is white with a large black stripe behind their yellow eyes. They have a long pink and grey beak with white chin. Their body is covered with long thin grey feathers over top long grey feathers as if they are wearing a large furry grey coat. They have thin dark legs.
A robin bird singing loudly on a thin willow branch with their beak wide open against a background of willow stems and leaves. They have bright orange plumage around their beak, their chin and the top half of their breast. The rest of the breast and under-wing is fluffy grey. The top of their head, nape, back and tail is dark brown. Their claws are gripping the stem tightly and their long rectangular shaped tail is extending below the branch.

Some photos from my husband's Saturday afternoon walk in the Dighty Burn wooded river valley near our home in eastern Dundee, Scotland 📷📸🎞️🪶

A speckled wood butterfly on yellow dead grass stems. It is pointing up in the image, with wings spread. Dark brown body, and brown and spotted/eyed wings.
Two long tailed tits in a willow bush. They are facing towards and away from us, small light/grey body, and black/red long tails. Blurry tails, cos they're moving a lot.
A magpie perched on a branch, facing towards the right. It has a black head, white and blue body, and long green and purple tail. Very distinguished.
A kingfisher perched on a branch with rocks behind. It is facing left, head turned slightly towards us. Mottled green/blue head and back, orange tummy.

Wow. Yup the colours would make more sense for it to be a leaf. Thanks!

Lost a buzzard? Spotted at the top of Dundee Law, Dundee, Scotland on 2024-Sep-26 at 14:41 UTC: a jess hanging from their legs? 📷📸🎞️🪶 #birds#ukwildlife#BirdingScotland

A slightly shaky image of a common buzzard bird flying to the left with their wings spread and tail fanned out against a blue sky. They appear to be looking intently at something ahead of them. They have a dark brown head with pale mottled brown and white body. Their wings are mostly white with brown patches on the leading and trailing edges, and their primary feathers spread like fingers. Their legs are yellow with a cord hanging vertically down. Their fan shaped tail is pale nearest their legs changing to dark brown at the end.

One of three buzzards hunting over Dundee Law, Dundee, Scotland. Hovering in the breeze just above viewpoint visitors, perched on communications tower, off to hover again. 📷📸🎞️🪶 #birds#ukwildlife#BirdingScotland

A common buzzard bird hovering with their wings spread wide against a white sky. They have a dark brown head with mottled brown and white body, bands of dark and light feathers on their wings with primary feathers spread like fingers. Their yellow feet are clenched and held against their body. Their fan shaped tail is pale nearest their legs changing to pale brown, then bands of light and dark brown at the end.
A common buzzard bird perched vertically on a metal bar of a communications tower against a blue sky background. They have a dark brown head, brown eyes with black pupils, and a hooked beak which is half yellow nearest their face and half black from the middle to the tip. They are looking intently at something on the ground. Their breast is mottled brown and white and their feet are yellow with black claws. Their tail extends below the bar they are perched on: pale with some brown patches.
A common buzzard bird flying away from the camera with wings spread against a blue sky like a gull. Their tail is fanned out and tilted at an angle to their wings to counter a crosswind. The body and tail is mottled brown and white; their wings have bands of dark and light feathers.

Scenic views of the River Tay from the top of Dundee Law including Broughty Ferry Castle and the Bell Rock Lighthouse in Scotland. 📷📸🎞️

A wide scenic view of the estuary of the River Tay from the top of a hill. The Dundee fills the bottom third of the picture with the blue river above from left to right, and green and yellow fields of Fife in the distance to the middle. The top half of the picture is pale blue sky with grey and white streaky clouds. On the left in the distance are wind turbine towers and an oil rig. On the right a road bridge crosses the river directly away from the camera.
A portrait view looking down from the top of a hill on a road bridge crossing a wide blue river from the top of a hill. The foreground bottom third of the image has buildings and a spire; on the far side there are houses on the right of the bridge and green fields to the left and into the distance. Above the fields is pale blue cloudy sky.
A wide scenic view of the River Tay and the Tay Rail bridge viewed from the top of a hill. The Dundee fills the bottom third of the picture with the pale silvery river above it from left to right. The bridge emerges roughly parallel to the bank towards the right of the picture then curves around and crosses the river diagonally. On the dar side is a long low hill with green and yellow fields and woods. The top of the picture is pale blue sky with grey and white streaky clouds.
A zoom shot of a distance promontory with a castle amid deep blue water. The promontory extends from left to right with the castle at the right end. The left end is filled with houses. In the distance on the horizon a small white tower rises up: the Bell Rock lighthouse. A thin band of pale blue sky is above the water. A white wind turbine tower stands in the docks at the bottom right of the image with the top of a red crane beside it.
