I hesitate to compare this Dune to David Lynch's version - particularly since the final cut was the studio's vision and not his - but the contrast between the voice-over use alone in the two films is stark and jarring.

(Lynch's film, albeit flawed, has its merits - and it warrants viewing - though I would wait till after seeing the complete anthology of Villeneuve's version.)
