1/11 According to Bayesian, inverse-optics accounts of perception, what feels like direct perception is nothing less than the result of a complex model-inversion process, answering the question “what state of the world produced this impression on my sense organs?”

2/11 For such inference to take place, we need access to the “perceptual likelihood function”: a probabilistic mapping from states of the world to sensations. This way, our meta-perceptual model of our own sensory system can affect perception itself.
