This thing Facebook did — running an MITM on Snapchat and other competitors’ TLS connections via their Onavo VPN — is so deeply messed up and evil that it completely changes my perspective on what that company is willing to do to its users.
People here treat me like an alien for not having Instagram and only barely tolerating WhatsApp for a couple people. This shows why.
Is it really that surprising though? Zuck has been an obvious shitbag from the very beginning. “They ‘trust me’. Dumb fucks.”

I mean the author of Onavo, Guy Rosen, the current CISO of meta, is a veteran of unit 8200 of IDF… and he began working on the technology while he was doing intelligence work at IDF. There’s no line they wouldn’t cross.

Ticktok seems safer and no contest. Even if it’s comparable, the CCP party is probably less of a worry for the average US customer.
