I'll have you know if you check the unicode identity of the Ļœ it is in fact a capital letter digamma and not an F.

I'd joke about this being a crime against humanity if only there weren't so many actual crimes against humanity going on right now in real time.

It's nice that the law still means something in some countries.

TL;DR: De Gruyter Brill is giving us an opt out option if we haven't already signed away our rights to AI exploitation in our existing contracts. So, I guess that's something at least.

What happens next?

If

    a) your content is eligible to be included in agreements with AI technology
         providers

AND

   b) your existing publishing contract does not grant us the unequivocal
right to include your title(s) in agreements with AI technology providers

you will shortly receive an email with an addendum to your author or editor contract.

If you agree we can include your work, please sign the addendum. If you decide not to sign, your work will not be included ā€“ but please keep in mind that this will also limit our ability to use your work when developing our own AI technologies and to allow existing partners to use it to develop AI to make your work more widely discoverable for readers and researchers via libraries, academic databases, and other search technologies.

If your existing publishing contract already grants us the right to use your work in the development of AI applications or for training and testing generative AI models, you do not..

ROMAN SOLDIER: Caesar, here are the captured barbarians who have been raiding our borders ROMAN EMPEROR: When will you barbarians learn to cease harassing Our people? BARBARIAN: Actually, I've talked to my friends and they all say they've never done that and don't know anyone who has #NotAlamanni
