The Democrats are well to the left of European social democrats on race/gender issues. But if an EU SocDem proposed price controls, no one would say “you communist!” and if one did, say in France, they’d respond “vous avez tort, the Communists sit over there, this is the Socialist fraction”

Might depend on the country? I think in Spain they would definitely be called communists by the present day right wing parties. They are routinely called communists for basically any reason.

America had wage and price controls in the early 1970s under Richard Nixon, a Republican. It was part of us finally going off the gold standard.
