We're in a weird spot in tradpub—fewer long series (even trilogies) *and* no real sense of how to pitch/promote standalones. Less a question of audience appetite (always shaped by availability) & more a question of tradpub not having cracked How to Do Things Now IMO

Yeah, the book I want to bring to readers is essentially a standalone and I have seen the Dying of the Light in my agent's eyes when I say that I mean, there might be another book in that world, but that story is complete. And I don't know what to do with it now.

Trad dragging behind reader demand? What?
