It's about Boeing, but it's also about an insidious culture that pervades corporate America: shareholder value, not product or even long-term profitability, is all that matters.
Incredible post from the best writer on Boeing that we've got. The level of willful negligence from executives on something that carries human beings through the sky is astonishing and should be a crime. Sorry I forgot to make a joke. prospect.org/infrastructu...
What Boeing did to all the guys who remember how to build a plane
The real scary thing is > Boeing is going to space soon 😱
The next “fun” thing to watch in this space: GE Aircraft engines.
It's truly astonishing how "shareholder value," which should by any reasonable interpretation include long-term operation as a going concern, became code for "this quarter's numbers and next quarter's projections." With the latter being illusory as often as not.
I read it and it was a terrifying example of how deadly corporate rule for profit is. I normally look at the economic side, but this story really drives home why there are regulations and what striping those away is going to set us back decades in safety. All for greed.
It’s outstanding reporting on a sickening culture.
