I am very ambivalent about this. Lots of great physics needs recognition. This is seriously pushing the definition of physics.
hopfield is actually a physicist and did a bunch of foundational work by importing the math from physics into ai, but i agree, it's a stretch
We could always ask the Nobel committee to expand the STEM award fields beyond Physics, Physiology or Medicine, and Chemistry. It forces a lot of research into broad catch-all categories.
