Pedestrians, it should be our right to be distracted. It should be our right to walk and listen to music / look at the sky / cute dogs / snowflakes and not worry about getting killed. Nothing about that is dangerous except for CARS. Don't let them make you believe you are the problem.

I believe part of the reason that drivers get so angry when they have a near miss is subconsciously they know that they're the problem, they know their capability for harm, and they can't reconcile that with how nonchalantly they treat driving.

"You must be alert at all times or else risk injury or death" is something for industrial facilities, car racing tracks, that sort of thing
