William Anders passed away earlier today. While orbiting with Borman and Lovell, he took the iconic Earthrise photo. No human had ever seen it before. On the transmission he said "Oh my God, look at that picture over there! It's the Earth coming up. Wow, is that pretty!" 🧪 🌕 Image: NASA

It was the first time anyone had seen the Earth rise over the Moon, and Anders' first instinct was to get a picture so everyone else could see it, too.
And he said "give me the color film!" They had fancy cameras with film backs they could swap out, he had black and white loaded and knew this needed color. He left a great legacy.
