👇🎯 Those of us who've lived in Wisconsin & elsewhere under subnational competitive authoritarianism for years know clearly what it means to have "normal" elections that are meaningless as mechanisms of accountability & democratic participation. I fear folks in blue states have no idea what's coming.

The idea that it will matter if Democrats nominate Shapiro vs Buttigieg vs Whitmer in 2028, if Trump is elected in 2024, is a category error. It shows we still don't really grasp, as a society, the far right authoritarian threat we are dealing with, despite years of warnings from the Cassandras.

That's the Hungarian model, too.
