I have fallen down a Mystery Dungeon rabbit hole, this is Torneko: The Last Hope (PS1, 1999) he's the merchant from DQIV and it's his 2nd appearance after the first Mystery Dungeon, a spin-off of DQ4. This is one cozy roguelike but gets tough! A Chunsoft/Matrix/Enix collaboration with much charm.
