WP Engine is suing Automattic and its CEO Matt Mullenweg.

to pick one example: Google has Chrome. The opensource-project back end of that is called chromium. Most of the code is still from Google, and arguably they have too much say in the direction of the "open source" browser -- but their competitors are using chromium, some quite happily.
