Harvard Law school’s library has a project where they digitized a *ton* of case law which involved chopping the books apart to get at the pages. They wrapped them all back up in plastic and stored them.

It's good to know some places hung on to the paper resources. The University of Alberta tossed all the printed & bound student theses in their collections (which all the grad students personally paid for)
