"Might be"? How generous you are, to consent in sparing my life.
This is a comment on my local subreddit in response to a post about new condos. I just want to know how this person thinks the world works. How do you go through life this way?
Especially when they have no idea how fucking agonizing it is to get government to implement even a slightly-better road design. I've been waiting seven years for them to convert one lane of the Queensboro Bridge to a pedestrian path; I've signed petitions, marched, written my city councillor, etc.
Pet peeve is when people on here say things like, "we don't need enforcement, we need better road design" as if achieving any broad social goal doesn't require a mix of approaches and you can just implement The One Good Policy that doesn't come with tradeoffs.
Looking forward to this!
Which we don't allow nearly enough of. Our nationwide NIMBY problem is a big part of the issue--dense neighborhoods mean less driving, and apartments/rowhouses need less energy to heat than McMansions.
“It's not just the megarich, the billionaires with yachts for their yachts. It's "don't call me a millionaire" millionaire homeowners, it's doctors, it's car dealers, it's cosmetologists.” www.liberalcurrents.com/its-not-the-...
The rentier economy that has a stranglehold on American quality of life includes a lot more than one percent of the population.
Issue polling isn't very informative--people don't know very much, and they also lie. A better guide is the behavior of actual politicians who are trying to win elections--most of whom are extremely wary (at best) of real climate action.
Just saying, I think there's a dangerous tendency on the left to blame bad popular opinions on corporate lobbying and such. It's ideologically easier, but pretty likely to be wrong when it comes to climate change. The average American will have to change their lifestyle, and people don't like that.
