My kid’s school does free lunch and breakfast and it is a godsend for those of us who also start work early and are already juggling a million other things. Statistically, the burden of doing things like this falls disproportionately on women even when they also work.

I think this is right. NE and California progressives have dominated the national left-of-center conversation for so long that people aren’t aware that winning with progressive ideas in the Midwest requires talking like a sensible adult rather than calling everyone Comrade and talking revolution.
