Note to colleagues at R1 schools: an easy way to support the research of faculty at smaller schools is to invite them to give talks in your seminar series. I just received emails about high-profile colloquia at two different Ivies: 100% of speakers in both are affiliated w big research universities
I honestly think their thought process is: if they're research is so worthwhile, why aren't they already at an R1?
Attachment to note: more than once, I have arrived as an invited speaker in a series, only to find that the conveners had been under the (mis)impression that I held a tenure-track post.
Philosophy is often not a hospitable profession
I've spoken in both series so there's proof it can be done! This is not about my career, which tbh has been exceptionally fun in the "giving talks" department. But like, come on people.
