Emma Darwin (1808 – 1896) was the wife of Charles Darwin. Her important role as an assistant and as a carer for Charles and their ten children, seven of whom survived to adulthood, has not been acknowledged enough. This is Emma in young age; as a mother, with her son Leonard; and in older age.

A pastel portrait of Emma Darwin in 1840. She is young, looking at the artist, wearing a white blouse.
A black and white photo of Emma Darwing with a young boy on her lap that she is hugging. The boy looks at the photographer with distrust, while Emma poses calm. The photo is printed, ant it reads at the bottom with cursive lettering "Emma Darwin, aged 45".
Another black and white portrait of Emma Darwin posing seated. She is older in this picture, posing with the same calm expression. She is wearing a head covering adorned with ribbons, and a modest dress and lace cape.

Emma Darwin is limited to 18 languages, in one of the most shocking spouse contrasts I've seen, while Charles has 200 translations. She is considered of low importance for Women's History and England.
