The transfer of the islands is separate from the domain for now I guess. Any that *do* exist might just get their registrations transferred in the case Mauritius is successful in claiming them from the UK. As for if they'll exist as "BIOT" doesn't anymore, we still have ".su" for the USSR.
The domain name authorities usually prefer to not break existing websites by taking down TLDs. Is there any example of them doing that?
