For your male abuser who happens to be a teacher as well. He wouldn't get to present at our conference. He wouldn't get to teach again if I were in charge. But basic safeguarding policies should rule out that at home tutoring stuff. It makes me so angry.

I love people to feel safe in spaces but we do that by making sure abusers, racists, homophobes feel unsafe-that the culture we create is one where they know that we will not protect their right to say harmful things. We protect the vulnerable. & we create that by being constructive not just hopeful

Oh yeah, I mean our code says "we accept no harassment, including sexual harassment. And we the organisers stand with victims of sexual abuse." We then explain how to report but also state our investigation will prioritise the safety of the most vulnerable among us.

My little girl cat, rowan, wouldn't talk to me outside. She was a fighter and held the boundaries. My fussing was like an embarrassing parent at the school gate.

And to say we care about diversity & inclusion ( usually a feature of academic organisations aims and objectives) and then only do things face to face is such hypocrisy. I'd rather they just admitted they didn't care tbh. Esp 'we can do hybrid if people ask specifically' nonsense. Nope.
