I totally get this perspective as someone who grew up in Boston and was not only taught, but surrounded by early American history, such that I found it too familiar and less interesting than the European and ancient history I ended up studying/majoring in in college.

Former members of Rotting Christ on why most of the early Greek metal scene didn't have bands singing about ancient Greece.

History is, of course, something that surrounds you in Athens, a point highlighted by the view of the Acropolis that accompanies our interview. Yet it's curious to note that in contrast to the black metal artists in Scandinavia who frequently took inspiration from pre-Christian and Viking stories and history during the 90s, neither Rotting Christ nor the majority of their countrymen draw on the history or mythology of ancient Greece for lyrical inspiration during the 90s.

This weekend I've written an abstract for an invited lecture, another for a paper at one conference, and yet another for a proposed panel at another conference. All this abstraction has made my head hurt.
