NIL and "NIL" are such different things. Players were getting paid to stay all along. There's nothing weird about what Michigan did; what's weird is that Michigan did it.

Remember there were plenty of guys who left with eligibility last year too: Bell, Schoon, Hayes, Morris, Mazi, Gemon, Turner II. I think NIL changed the math some, but the chance to win a national championship probably meant more for Zinter/Corum/Keegan.
