Now we know the backstory of Nabokov's "I was the shadow of the waxwing slain. By the false azure in the windowpane" - I had no idea it was a cautionary tale about the dangers of drunk-flying! It's sweet to seeing people showing this compassion to the birds, but aren't we enabling them a bit here?
