THREAD: UK transphobes are doing a bizarre victory lap over a "systematic review" of gender-affirming care even though it refutes all of their core arguments. First, only a tiny number of kids medically transition every year. cass.independent-review.uk/home/publica...
The “historical contexts” bits are, surprise surprise, so astonishingly wrong that it’s impossible to read it as anything other than a bizarre form of fan-fiction.
So much of the right's strategy with their transphobia is just to make noise.
It is so bizarre for the report to conclude puberty blockers may be a problem for trans kids when they don’t cause non-trans kids to suddenly request transition.
Thank you for taking the time to dig into this even though I imagine it’s frustrating and exhausting. Hard to overstate how upsetting it is that the default, mainstream opinion here now is that people should be denied healthcare and human rights.
they’re doing victory laps bc parts of the review are blatantly pandering to TERFs and/or buying into transphobic ideas
the victory lap isn't really about the content of the report, it's about the policy changes the report was produced to justify
Second, kids receive comprehensive assessments before receiving any treatment. Some have dozens of appointments before a referral to endocrinology; most get no treatment at all.
I wonder if the people who did this study looked at what effect social and familial pressure along with social media influence and public hatred by media figures like JK Rowling played in the person's decision to detransition? I also wonder what % of those kids go enby instead of assigned sex.
