This isn't showing up in the media reports, but the CDC notes that the drop isn't statistically significant. And the surveys were taken between 2021 and 2023, when even fewer people were taking Ozempic. www.cdc.gov/nchs/product...

From 2013–2014 through August 2021–August 2023, the age-adjusted prevalence of obesity in adults did not change significantly, while the age-adjusted prevalence of severe obesity increased from 7.7% to 9.7% (Figure 4, Table 4). Changes in the prevalence of obesity and severe obesity between the two most recent survey cycles, 2017–March 2020 and August 2021–August 2023, were not significant.

I'm also by default very hesitant to make much of results from anytime during 2020-2023. Public health data got very screwy during and for a long while after COVID emerged. There are still ongoing impacts. Before and after comparisons need to be done with a lot of care.

We've talked on the show about how GLP-1s are legitimately a huge deal and will likely end up being used by a vast swathe of the population, but for now we should be careful accepting these results as real considering we've basically never seen this happen on a national level with any country before
