I had so many dreams about how birthing would go with my first kid and then wound up almost dying, and was so deeply grateful for the obgyns with surgical tools. For some of us, the body is *not* built for doing this.
I was supposed to have 48 hours of an empty house, y'all.
Youngest is home sick, desperately sad about missing the trip, but smart enough to tell me after coughing in my face and puking: "mama, you should probably be wearing a mask." Well played.
Just got this camp report: Oldest kid has gotten his "knife certification" and is now whittling. Nothing but good can come from this.
Just a reminder that a great way you can support your favorite authors is to leave a review of their books on any public platform (Amazon, Goodreads, Google, any book seller's website, etc).
With the good news re: 2023 crime stats, I thought I'd look at the murder numbers in Minneapolis. And it is, as expected, not good. We've lost the drops in violence from 2022. We need holistic, coordinated violence reduction from the city and state now. (Graph from realtimecrimeindex.com)
The FBI reports murder declined 11.6% nationally in 2023, the largest one-year decline ever recorded. Violent crime was down 3% and property crime down 2.4% last year with coverage exceeding 94% of the US population. My thoughts on today's report: jasher.substack.com/p/murder-fel...
Takeaways from the FBI's Crime in the United States 2023 report.
Got to unexpectedly visit my book after stopping in at B&N with the kids over the weekend. Such good company on this wall!
