I think one of the underreported elements of this study is that news organizations, despite massive followings on X, would lose nothing by moving to Bluesky because their content isn't **actually seen** on X. These are the big news outlets compared to the blue check influencers.
Bluesky definitely has the juice right now. Feels like the old Twitter where I’d see who I actually followed and felt informed by it.
I personally like a views metric (consumption) more than a retweets metric (engagement) to look at this question, but having looked at it before I think the story is likely to be worse not better when looking at views.
The legacy news giants will avoid BlueSky because it is coded liberal. The fact that Xitter has become unambiguously Nazi does not register.
Twitter is still a Top 5 referrer for us, if you don't include our own domain.
As someone who was running metrics inside news organizations during Twitter's heyday, I can attest that getting off it *then* wouldn't have cost them much more - it was never really a substantial traffic driver.
BTW ditto for US Senate offices and House Member offices.
