The fault in our reading habits

Is the ultimate expression of the sentiment to always read challenging/disruptive things? Certainly since the pandemic has worn down my faith in American humans I find myself gravitating toward softer, more comfortable entertainment choices-- real life and real people being "enough of a challenge."
