When the Union first sat at a table with the execs, they asked for $3 more an hour. The execs literally were like, "thanks for wasting our time", and LEFT. I couldn't afford to leave my job. I also couldn't distance from my coworkers, in that kiosk. But their wealthy customers were more important.
And let me just add that we did get a state-funded raise, but just for a couple of months. Meanwhile, we were getting sick, dying, working 3-10 times as hard because of business going up 75%/so many people not working because they were sick... And NO ONE was tipping at our Starbucks kiosk.
When I worked for a grocery store, I did the math (pre Covid, during which, their profits soared by BILLIONS), and if the CEO worked the equivalent of a 40 hour work week, they'd be making almost $4,000 an hour. They FOUGHT US getting a raise during Covid. The raise didn't come until 2022.
