As my daughter @madepner.bsky.social pointed out to me, someone on social media wrote that the mainstream media treat the Democrats as protagonists (and charge them with growing and changing) and the Republicans as antagonists (implacable forces of nature that cannot be expected to change).

Only Democrats are required to promote bipartisanship. With a party that defines themselves in opposition to the Democrats. The Democrats suck but that’s a tough assignment
whether it’s for the sake of bipartisanship or something more sinister, the media would rather get dems to believe that most right-wing beliefs & bigotry are normalized throughout the country than meaningfully work to challenge the ubiquity of right-wing beliefs & bigotry
