I believe this CVPR 2024 paper (preprint 2023) introducing the system Marigold, from ETH Zurich, kicked off the current interest:
I came across it from this more recent preprint (w/ code and demos) that improves that paradigm by simplifying and speeding up training & inference considerably (or that’s the claim, anyway!):
