So, under current law, the President can execute political opponents with no legal consequences, but cannot forgive student loans. Seems reasonable.
sounds like the solution is to execute the entire board of directors of every student loan company
I mean, he could also execute the leaders of the private loan servicing companies, so it seems like he’d have… some ability to influence the private actions of those companies…
American democracy in a nutshell? 😔
Conservatives, who control the courts, believe the government is for doing violence and facilitating wealth extraction and nothing else. This makes perfect sense from their perspective.
“Protects but does not bind” versus “binds but does not protect” as the new judicial doctrine.
Under current law, innocent but murdered-by-institution Marcellus Williams could’ve been saved yet invisible red tape feeding automated bureaucracy was more important to an entire country hellbent on “defending” itself, allies and associates. The most reasoned have no need for reasoning.
Maybe instead of forgiving student loans the President can execute them.
Really draws a harsh light on what this society values, doesn't it?
Y'see, it all lies in the definition of "official act," which you have to argue to SCOTUS. If you're a Republican, everything is an official act including ones taken decades before you ran. If you're a Democrat, none are, including things they made up and don't have evidence for.
He should go for it.
