Combining machine learning and template matching, we improved the earthquake catalog by 5x. With the larger number of earthquakes, we were able to identify multiple fault segments. The M5.1 earthquake likely ruptured a reverse fault and a blind strike-slip fault, and initiated at their intersection
These findings provide valuable insights into how earthquakes behave in stable continental regions, which are typically seismically quiet. It also leaves open questions about stress drops in EUS EQs and an apparently lower than expected aftershock magnitudes.
